For the Swiss dance institution Residenzzentrum tanz+, I organized an exclusive showcase and artist talk with Pei-Ling Kao at the Aargauer Kunsthaus.
Pei-Ling Kao is a Taiwanese dance educator, choreographer, and performer. She is also an Associate Professor of Dance at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. With over 30 years of experience in the field, she has studied various dance styles to intellectually and physically adapt to the evolving landscape of contemporary dance. Her research and creative interests focus on movement improvisation, bicultural and hybrid movement practices, dance lineages, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Pei-Ling Kao’s work explores cultural identity and migration through dance, engages with political and social issues, and reflects her deep commitment to the art form. Questions such as “What influence do choreographers exert on dancers?” and “How free are dancers, really?” continue to inform her artistic inquiry leading up to the planned premiere of her work in May 2023 in San Francisco, USA.
